I planned activities for everyday that Mom was in town. On Wednesday, we were going to Roseau to tour the city and go on a boat trip to whale watch until sunset. Sounds fun, right? Well, we didn't get to whale watch! On Tuesday Ross sent an email to students letting them know that a cold front was coming through and with it they were expecting "sea swells", possibly waves getting up to 15 feet! Even though the water seemed perfectly normal to me on Wednesday, we didn't get to go out on the water. :( We checked into Fort Young and were very excited about how nice it was! We had requested a room in the new section of the hotel and it was just like we were checking into a hotel in the U.S.! Our room was decorated nicely, there was a nice, big TV, the bathroom was huge and our view was fabulous! We walked out onto the balcony and mom said "Oh, this is perfect! The view couldn't be better!". We looked down at the rocks beneath our balcony and watched the crabs running around...then it hit us...we were pretty close- no very close - to the water. If there really were sea swells coming, this is not where we wanted to be! We went to the front desk and asked them and they said that they were going to board up the windows as a precaution. Basically, this meant that if we stayed in our very nice room, we would no longer have a view because it would be boarded up and if we heard big waves in the night we would have no idea how big they actually were, or even if they were as high as our window! We opted to "downgrade" to an older room on the 5th floor. It was still nice, just not as nice as the first room. I took mom on a little walking tour of Roseau. We went to the Spice Man and to several other little stores. We had lunch at Rituals, which is a new place that is comparable to Starbucks! We're big time now that we have a restaurant comparable to Starbucks! Mom finally got her latte. :) I was excited because I bought a lamp made completely out of coconuts (I'd been wanting it for a couple of months) and a very nice Dominica coffee table book. Since we weren't going whale watching, we had to come up with something to do. We got massages! Mom had never had one before, so I was glad she got her first one in Dominica! The massage was fabulous! Although it was different than massages I have had before ( little too up close and personal for my comfort), it was very relaxing and made me feel like I was on vacation. We had dinner at the Waterfront restaurant in the hotel and it was delicious. I got a steak and it tasted like it was the real deal! The water was beautiful, especially since the waves were bigger than normal. We had a very fun night!

This is the bathroom that I was so excited about, but only got to use once before we changed rooms.

Everyone should visit Ashley and Ryan!! It was fun and very educational. They even let me sleep in their air-conditioned room with them. I'll bet Ryan is still missing me. Martha
