Les Saintes

View of Dominica from the boat.
Sometimes Ryan likes to ruin our pictures.
Arriving in Les Saintes.
Real houses! They have real houses here!

Saturday night we invited Kyle and Andrea over for dinner. We had so much fun just eating and talking that before we knew it, Kyle looked at his watch and said it was midnight. We had to be at the pier in 7.5 hours and we had a huge mess in the kitchen to clean up. I want a dishwasher so badly! I told Ryan that if we find a place that has a dishwasher, even if it does not have a bed, we're taking it! I started washing as quickly as I could and Ryan was right beside me drying them. We finally got to be around 1:30 and set the alarm for 6:30...err.. We are not morning people, esp. not with 5 hours of sleep! We got up early on Sunday and started packing stuff we would need for the day. We each took a Dramamine and headed for the pier. We boarded the sailboat around 8:00 and set sail for a 2.5 hour trip to the french island of Guadeloupe, specifically, Les Saintes. As soon as we sat down on the boat we heard "Here I am to Worship" playing on the radio and we just listened and stared at our beautiful surroundings. Dominica never looked so pretty. It was a beautiful day and they provided bagels and cream cheese and other types of breakfast foods. I didn't really notice the other stuff, I was so excited for the bagels! I know there was fruit, and some other choices. The Dramamine was not supposed to make us drowsy, but it did! We were konked out for part of the boat ride. As we approached Les Saintes, we could immediately tell that it was much more civilized than Dominica. There were tons of cute stores and restaurants all along the beach. This was more like it! Why couldn't Ross have built their campus 20 miles north?! Ryan grabbed some ice cream (gelato) and that was enough to make the trip worth it for him. I dashed into some of the cute little stores and boutiques. Everything was super expensive! They had great artwork, clothes, handbags and shoes. We walked with Mike, Marissa, Krista and Josh to a restaurant called ti Kaz'la. It is right on the beach and was wonderful! I bet I ate a hundred baguettes! The menu was in French with a few descriptions in English. We weren't sure what we ordered, but hoped for the best. I saw on the menu "Poissons du Jour" (fish of the day). I tried to ask the waiter what the fish of the day was. He gave a long and detailed answer...all in french. I had no idea what he said, so I just said "mmm, that sound's good...I think I'll have some." :) It was delicious! Ryan had steak and it was also delicious. The beach and water were gorgeous. I really wish we had more time there. If anyone comes to visit us, I'll take you there. It is an adorable place! People were jumping off the boat and swimming. On the trip back we had baguettes, salami, olives, cheese, brie, etc. We also got to watch the sunset from the boat. I'm not sure why, but I can only attach 5 pictures per post. There will be more pictures to follow.

Traci and I visited Guadeloupe a few years ago. I would have loved to have gone over to Terre D'Haute but we just couldn't work it out. It was a fun trip though.
