Anybody who is on Facebook already knows this, but there is a big thing going around for everyone to write 25 random things about themselves. I've been tagged several times and I never like to ignore a tag. If you've been reading my blog for a long time, you know I already did a post of 100 random things about me here: http://lifeonthenatureisle.blogspot.com/2008/07/what-else-could-you-want-to-know.html
I'll try to come up with 25 new things...
1. I always thought I was a planner but it turns out I love this life we're living where we don't know what city or state we'll be living in 6 months from now. I find it exciting! I fully intend to settle down in Tennessee once this medical school journey is over, but in the meantime I'm loving the journey and not thinking about the destination.
2. My friends make me want to be a better woman. That's why they are my friends! Well that, and the fact that they're fabulous.
3. I could care less about being politically correct. I want to be biblically correct.
4. If I could do anything I wanted tonight and price was no object, I would have dinner with my family at home and then play games all night in my pajamas. That is my idea of a fun night.
5. I love rap music. My parents just found this out about me.
6. I would love to learn how to ballroom dance and I like to say that the only reason Ryan and I don't learn is because he doesn't like to dance. The truth is I am too embarrassed to take a class and dance in front of other people because I've seen how horrible some of those people look on Dancing with the Stars. Plus, I had a really bad dance class experience. Marissa invited me to her hip hop aerobics class in Nashville after work one night. She assured me that the majority of the women were 20 years older than us and couldn't dance. I went and took my spot in the very back of the room (which didn't matter because the room had 4 walls that were mirrors so everybody could still see everybody). The women were not older, they were all about our age and they all had on really trendy work out outfits that matched and I had on a Tshirt and running shorts. Towards the end of the class the instructor broke us into groups and gave us music and told us to come up with a routine using the moves we had just learned plus any we wanted to add and we had to perform it for the class! I wanted to run out of the room at that moment but I toughed it out and felt like a clumsy mess. The worst part was that the Intermediate Hip Hop class was starting right after our class so they all got to come in and watch our performances. Never went back. Never plan to.
7. I only like 3 vegetables: potatoes, okra, and corn. That's all. I love most every fruit, though.
8. I have too many goals and instead of focusing on one at a time, I get overwhelmed and accomplish nothing. My goals are: reviewing and improving my German (bought some books and CDs...spent about 2 hours before moving on to the next thing), learning Spanish, passing the CPA exam, exercising 4 days a week, learning to cook new dishes, studying the Bible as well as studying other religions so I will be "prepared to give an answer for the hope that is within me" and, currently, finding a job. I used to really want to learn how to play the violin and I wanted to try playing the piano again, but we can't really afford to go out and buy instruments and this time!
9. I get jealous (not really jealous, but I couldn't think of a better word) of Ryan and hunting. I wish I had something that I loved to do as much as he loves that.
10. I do not watch scary movies or violent movies. If I wanted to be scared or see violence, I could just watch the news.
11. One of the things I love about Ryan is that he knows how to use a gun. If times get tough he can go out and kill us some dinner. :)
12. I can name all of the states and capitols.
13. I have been to 25 U.S. states and to 20 countries.
14. Everything in life is black and white. The only reason we see “grey” is because we want to. Most of the time when we talk about a grey area it is because we are afraid of offending someone or because we don’t like what the real answer is.
15. My generation disgusts me a lot of the time. We have way too much attitude and sense of entitlement (just watch 5 minutes of American Idol). Plus, there’s the whole no morals/values thing… I would have preferred being in the “I Love Lucy” generation.
16. My recipe box is full of dessert recipes and only about 6 “real food” recipes.
17. I have a mental list of topics that I want to discuss with people in heaven when I get there. I want to ask Noah what it was like in that Ark and if he got any sleep those 40 days and nights. I want to ask Sarah what it was like being pregnant with Isaac when she was almost 100 years old. I also want to ask Jesus what took Him so long to come back for us. :)
18. I hate to be cold but love it when it's cold enough for a fire. I sit really close to the fireplace. As close as you can get without actually being inside the chimney.
19. I don't have much natural athletic talent (my brother got all of that), but I played practically every sport a girl could play at some point in my life: softball, soccer, basketball, tennis, volleyball and cheerleading.
20. Education is very important to me. I cannot stand it when people don't try or sell themselves short and I worry about having children who do not care about school. One of the only Bs I ever made (before college) was in handwriting and I remember bawling because I made a B. Then I got to college and had a professor give me a C and I called my parents and was so mad at them for lying to me all those years and telling me I was smart. :) Seriously though, I think education is a big deal not only to get the career you want, but to continue to better yourself throughout your life. I think people get depressed when they stop working towards something and have no goals and just get stuck in the routine of life.
21. After living in Dominica for 16 months and having no appliances at all, I actually enjoy doing our laundry, vacuuming our apartment, and loading and unloading the dishwasher. I used to hate going to the grocery...not anymore!
22. I don't believe that things (or people) are "meant to be". I believe God gives us the freedom to choose our situations and the person we want to spend our life with. I also don't believe in luck or coincidence. I believe in blessings.
23. When my parents brought Adam home from the hospital I reached for him and said "Where's your baby, Mommy?". I thought Adam was for me. He was!
24. I have loved every phase of my life. I hear people say "oh I would never go back to high school" or never go back to...fill in blank. It's not that I want to go back, it's just that I have wonderful memories from each phase.
25. If money grew on trees I would lease one of the vacant offices on the Miracle Mile, open a really cute bakery, and fly Andrea down to Miami to work it with me. If only money grew on trees...
That was really tough because I was trying not to repeat the 100 things I already mentioned in the previous post!
Here are 25 things about Ryan that I will tell you:
1. I might be able to find somebody who works as hard as he does, but I will never find somebody who works harder.
2. He loves Robert DeNiro. We own pretty much all of his movies.
3. Ryan prays for famous people. When Robert DeNiro had prostate cancer Ryan prayed for him at our dinner table. He also prayed for Britney Spears when she had her meltdown. There have been others too. I forget that they are real people who need prayers, but Ryan prays for them.
4. He hates spending money on food. He would be much happier going to McDonalds or Taco Bell than to go to a nice restaurant, even if he's not the one paying. I love going to restaurants, so he puts on his happy face, but I know he thinks it's silly to "waist" hours at a restaurant.
5. He is extremely brand loyal. TVs, tennis shoes, computers, backpacks, etc.
6. He wakes up very happy and talkative.
7. He thinks Nashville is the best place in the entire world.
8. He can sing like George Jones.
9. He's really good at impersonating people.
10. He's not good at taking compliments.
11. He drinks about 8 diet cokes a day.
12. He chews about 8 pieces of gum a day.
13. He always leaves the bathroom clean when he leaves in the mornings. You can't tell anyone got ready in there. I really appreciate that.
14. His signature look consists of jeans, a long sleeve button up, and new balance shoes.
15. One of his all-time favorite songs is Mandy by Barry Manilow...Can't you picture him singing that?
16. He loves it when preachers lay down the law, rather than preaching fluffy sermons.
17. He always opens doors for me, including car doors. Everytime.
18. If Ryan lived alone his freezer/pantry would only have frozen pizzas, pizza rolls, diet cokes, popcorn and little debbie cakes in it.
19. He wears way too much deodorant.
20. If you asked him to empty his pockets you would find chapstick, keys, cell phone, wallet, gum and eye drops (at any given time).
21. He loves watching Fox News and CSPAN.
22. He really wants to go to Scotland and Ireland, but only because he loves Braveheart.
23. His dream vacation is to go on a hunting trip to the Milk River in Montana.
24. He loves playing the claw (You know that game they have as you’re walking into Walmart? They also have them at Pizza Hut.) He has a pretty impressive collection of stuffed animals he has won. I think I gave them all to Goodwill.
25. All of his future patients are very lucky because he is going to make a wonderful doctor.

Maybe you can find a ballroom dance class that dances to a rap song of the states and capitols!
