I read a lot of blogs. It all started when I was living in Dominica and had all kinds of time on my hands to just wander from blog to blog. I've noticed that the majority of blogs I read seem to keep each post focused on a specific topic. I've also noticed that my blog posts are all over the place and cover several topics and usually the topics have nothing to do with each other. Oh well, I guess I just type as the thought pops into my mind and don't put a lot of planning or structure into my blogging. Because of this, it's tricky for me to come up with a title for my post.
Anyway, I was talking to Andrea the other day and we were talking about how in Dominica we would do sweet things for our husbands all the time and how we haven't done things like that since we've moved back to the U.S. For example, she wrote things she loved about Kyle and stuck them all over their apartment before he got home from studying. One time I wrote "I love you" on about 100 mini post-its and flipped through Ryan's textbooks and stuck them in random spots on many different pages. Another time I looked up about 15 encouraging bible verses and wrote them on index cards and stuck them on our mirrors, door knobs, night stands, everywhere. I even stuck one in the pocket of his jeans for him to find later in the day. There were more, but you're getting the idea. So last night I decided to get creative and do something nice for Ryan. When he got home from studying we had a little scavenger hunt. I wrote reasons I love Ryan in clues that rhymed and he had to use the clue to find the next reason. Here are a few:
When he first walked in I told him to put his pajama pants on and then report to the kitchen for a surprise (I had hidden a clue in his pj pants). Then I handed him a piece of paper that read: "There are many reasons I love you.
I'm going to name a few.
To find them you'll need your detective hat and follow my excellent clues!
I love you because you're funny and you tell such clever jokes.
I love that I can count on you to keep us stocked up with (diet cokes)."
The words in parentheses were missing. So clue #2 was hidden in the refrigerator in the case of diet cokes.
Clue #2 "I love that you take care of me and always make me feel safe. I love how soft your skin is after you shave your (face)."
The next clue was hidden under his razor.
Clue #3 "I love that you're always thankful everytime I clean or cook. I love that you live your life according to the most holy (book)."
That one gave him some trouble because we have more than one Bible in our apartment and he was searching through each of them.
Skipping to Clue #6 "I love how you support me in everything I do. I love you all the time, just because you're (you)."
He had no idea where to look for that one. I said "well, maybe it's on you!" and that's when he found the clue hidden in his pocket.
Clue #7 "I love that you call me every chance you get throughout the day. I love the way you help others and I love the way you (pray)."
He ran to the dinner table and looked under his place mat and found the next clue.
Skipping to Clue #10 "I love that you're the best husband a girl could ever ask for. And when you wake up tomorrow, I'll only love you more." (Hidden under his pillow)
He had so much fun and asked if there could be a game every night. :) If anyone wants to share with me ideas of cute or fun surprises you have done for your husband, I'm currently accepting new ideas.
Next random topic/thought. I hate hate hate health insurance. This has been the biggest thorn in my side for the past month. My poor cousin has been working so hard to get everything sorted out for me, but because he writes insurance in TN and I had to have my insurance written in FL, ultimately he can only do so much. Y'all, I want you to know that I applied for insurance coverage with Assurant on January 28th and they still have not approved me. And I don't care to tell you that I take no prescription medicines and the only reason I have gone to the doctor's since before we moved to Dominica was for my women's appointment and for a physical (where all results were normal). Don't I sound like the perfect insurance candidate? My cobra expires Saturday...this Saturday!!! I can't imagine what's going to happen next or what Assurant is going to tell me when I call them again tomorrow, again. Well, tonight I looked up the address of their corporate office which just happens to be in Miami and I'm planning to just drive over there tomorrow and speak with someone face to face. I might have to camp out in their lobby to get some results. I was talking to a man at church tonight who told me (and I don't know how sure he is about this) that when people arrive in Miami from Cuba they are automatically considered citizens and qualify for Medicare health insurance benefits. He also told me that Miami is #1 in the country for Medicare insurance fraud cases. So I'm thinking you have to be kidding me here...I'm a healthy citizen who has applied for ridiculously expensive health insurance and has written a check for it (dated 1/28/09) and I still don't have insurance?! This brings me to my next topic (coming out of left field). I love Kristen Wiig. She's on SNL and I think she is hilarious. I've posted a few links to some skits she is in, but the best one's are not available online. She does Penelope, Target Lady, Suze Oreman, and Aunt Linda (to name a few). Aunt Linda is a very agitated women who gives movie and TV reviews and they're always bad. She makes really dramatic facial expressions and drastically jerks her neck around to show her disapproval. An example of a TV show review she once gave was "You call that Life on Mars?! I call in crap on TV!" (imagine an older woman who is being loud and is very grumpy and aggravated while talking). After giving movie reviews she will say "I give it 2'Whaats?' and a 'Oh, Brother.'" So, to quote Aunt Linda, my review of Assurant so far is 2 "total craps" and a "you gotta be freakin kidding me".
