Happy Birthday, Andrea!!

Today is Andrea's birthday and I was in charge of making her cake. One day when we were at the pool about a month ago she mentioned that when she was a little girl she wanted a sunflower cake. So, I decided to do my best to make her one! I started making petals over a week ago. It was a big trial and error project. The first batch of icing never got hard. The second batch was too runny. So I decided to make a back-up batch of petals. Good thing, because once the cake was built and I took a picture, some of the petals starting breaking and I had to rely on my back-ups.

Picture of the cake before the petals started breaking!
Andrea with her cake! We went to Big Papa's Saturday night to celebrate. As you can see, the back-up petals aren't as pretty as the original ones.

Since Kyle had to go to the hospital in Roseau today, I decided to have a Birthday Breakfast for her here. I invited the girls in our Bible study and we had such a wonderful time! I had way too many recipes that I wanted to make...The breakfast menu consisted of strawberry stuffed french toast, bacon, fruit kabobs with yogurt dipping sauce, lemon poppyseed bread, blueberry muffins, ham & cheese omelets and champagne punch (non-alcoholic). I know that is way too much food, but I was worried that if one thing didn't turn out good then I would need some back-ups! Everyone got to take home a little party favor bag full of muffins & lemon poppyseed bread.

The punch. It was really good! All it is is white grape juice, apple juice & ginger ale. Since I didn't have a punch bowl, I had to improvise and use a salad bowl! I told my mom that I was frustrated that I couldn't throw a nice party with real plates, glasses, tablecloth, etc. She reminded me that once I get home and have all those things I just mentioned, I won't have my friends here with me. So I decided she was right and the company was more important than the fancy things!
This one's for you mom! Here's a shot of someone's plate.

Everyone stayed until lunch time (we were too stuffed to eat lunch anyway) and then Andrea and I went to sell bread. We tried to go to the pool, but it rained a lot today so that didn't last long. We had so much fun celebrating Andrea's birthday!

What a beautiful cake!!! I think it looks so cute. I wish I could find that photo of you with the sunflower hat when you were 13. The food was delicious, I know. Wish I had been invited. Adam cooked dinner on the egg tonight and it was so good. I am not going to need to cook much longer if you two keep practicing!!! Love you, Mom
