Paige came to visit! Ryan and I picked her up in Ft. Lauderdale last Tuesday. Since everybody has been visiting during rainy season I am always nervous that it will rain the entire time they are here. Paige and Julie gave me a night in The National hotel on South Beach for my birthday! Ryan and I stayed at The National a couple of summers ago, so I knew it was going to be fabulous! So, on Tuesday I took Paige to Merrick Park and we had lunch at Mariposa in Neiman Marcus. That is my favorite place to have lunch. Have I mentioned that before? Anyway, we shopped around Merrick Park but didn't buy anything (aren't you proud Ryan and Dave?). On our way home we stopped off at Chocolate Fashion for dessert and then we walked up and down the Miracle Mile. We headed to the pool but after only about 15-20 a storm rolled in. We just hung out in the apartment and talked and got caught up on everything. Then we decided to exercise to a new salsa dvd I bought. It was pretty hilarious. I don't think we've quite got the hang of it. We went to dinner at one of the many restaurants around here and then we rented Confessions of a Shopaholic. Paige and I have both read every Shopaholic book, so I was excited to see it. As usual, the book was much better than the movie, but I still enjoyed it. Wednesday morning we left our apartment early and Ryan dropped us off at South Beach. We were pretty nervous for several reasons: 1) we showed up at the hotel 7 hours before check-in time and 2) weather.com was calling for thunder and lightning all day...every hour! Everything turned out perfect! Our room was ready and we were able to check in when we got there, we grabbed the best chairs by the pool, and were able to take a walk on South Beach while it was deserted and peaceful. I had never seen it so calm and empty (early morning). We had such a fun and relaxing day and I loved my staycation! It never rained a drop and the sun was shining brightly the majority of the day. We had a delicious lunch by the pool and then we walked to the best gelato place for dessert. For dinner we walked down Lincoln Road and picked one of the many restaurants. Lauren and her Mom were in town so they met us for dinner. Ryan picked us up the next morning and we laid by the pool at my apartment, ate more great food, went to the cupcake place, and went to the Marlins game that night with Ryan, Rabbi and Lisa. After the game we all went to Ben & Jerrys in our building. Friday morning was more of the same: walking along the Mile, great food, cupcakes, etc. It was such a fun visit! After we took Paige to the airport I met up with Lauren and her mom again for 2 more days of eating out and visiting. As you can tell, I had a great week!

The pool at our apartment. This is how the storms roll in. The sky looks like it is being covered by a blanket. I like to stay outside and watch them until it starts raining.

The National

South Beach...pretty much to ourselves.

A view of the side of our apartment that faces the Miracle Mile. In between the tunnel are 2 great restaurants: Tarpon Bend and The Sports Exchange.
