2.5 Years, 3 Cities, 5 "Homes"

We are all moved in to our new home in Miami. We have been married under 3 years and we just moved into our 5th "home" since we got married. I feel really blessed that we are getting to live in a variety of places and experience different lifestyles. We are really excited about this place. I pretty much love everything about it (except for the fact that it's still far from TN). Ryan has been here for a few weeks but I just got here Friday. Ryan's parents went down with him when he came and they helped clean our apartment. My parents drove down with me so that I wouldn't have to make the long trip by myself. We left Thursday afternoon and drove straight through. I think it took us about 18 hours from Jackson. We didn't make the best time from about 2-4 AM. My mom was pretty tired and was going about 55 mph. Better than stopping though! I am loving being back in the warm weather. I went outside in a sleeveless top and my skin was very happy to feel the sun on it again! I've decided I love living in places where palm trees grow. Dad had to fly home yesterday so he could work this week and Mom is staying until Friday. We've been trying to make this apartment feel like a home and I've been job hunting. If anybody has a good job connection for me, I would love to know it! Ryan found out this past week that we now have the possibility of staying in Miami for core rotations. As of right now, I love that idea! Our apartment is in the perfect location and I can walk most places. Last night Ryan ran outside and grabbed dinner for us at California Pizza Kitchen and afterwards we went to Ben & Jerry's (which is part of our building) for dessert. I'll post pictures another time. This blog is kind of all over the place because I'm pretty tired!

Today Ryan spent the day with a hematologist/oncologist. He had an interesting day and is going back on Thursday. The doctor was really nice and told Ryan that he may be administering chemo on Thursday. Ryan also started a medical Spanish class tonight. That will definitely be beneficial if we stay in Miami long! Plus, my dad goes on a medical mission trip to Panama every year and we hope Ryan will get to join him in a few years.

So far we have had a very positive experience in Miami. We went to church yesterday and everybody was very, very welcoming to us. As we were leaving church an older lady grabbed my purse from behind me because she wanted to introduce herself and was having trouble catching me! She then proceeded to introduce us to about 12 other people. Everyone was super nice and started giving us their names and phone numbers (in case we need anything). The preacher was talking to Ryan and when Ryan told him the area we live in he said "Hey, call me right now so I'll have your number!". He told Ryan that he's in this area all the time and that they need to get together for lunch. My mom and I were invited to a lady's Bible study and lunch tomorrow and when people heard that I was looking for a job they were trying to help me with that too. Basically, they were the friendliest people ever. :)

It's very strange to be "back to school" but still be in America! Good strange, definitely! We miss a lot of people, but are excited for this next part of medical school. Please come visit us! I know it's cold where most of you are, so you should probably jump on a Southwest flight to Ft. Lauderdale and I'll pick you up. People were swimming at our apartment today! We will definitely be in Miami until the end of June. Hopefully longer!

Hey Ashley, Good to hear you all are settling in fine down there. Things are pretty good up here in Michigan, I must admit though I am very jealous of your warm weather!! It's suppossed to snow tonight though, so that will be better than just being cold. Anyways, just wanted to say hi! Take care and keep in touch!

It was fun getting to see your new home and meet some of the people that I have been reading about while ya'll were in Dominica. I have gotten in such a habit of reading your blog that I have still been checking it every day, even when we were together. Take care of mom and send her home soon! If you are unsuccessful in finding a job, TFF would welcome you back(at a slight pay cut). You still need a new name for your blog. My suggestion is "Life a Little North of the Nature Isle."
Love,
Dad
