I'm bored! I don't go anywhere without Ryan. Since we don't have a car, I'm not comfortable walking the streets alone. Since Ryan is in class or studying the majority of the day, that leaves me stuck here with nothing to do. I can't get a job teaching at the elementary school because 1) they don't have any openings and 2) they only hire people who are certified and have experience teaching in the U.S. So, I'm not sure how to fill my days. I can't cook because I can't find anything I need to cook with! I am not only talking about utensils, but food also. I can't find olive oil, flour, sugar, milk, boneless skinless chicken breast, etc. I'm sure they have to have this stuff some time, but in my 3 visits to the grocery, I haven't found any. What I have found is powdered milk - has anyone ever tried that? I didn't bother getting any. I also found a box in the freezer labeled "chicken parts"... didn't sound appetizing. The eggs are brown - why is that? Are they the same as the white eggs we have at home? Basically, we've been eating spaghetti! I spent the majority of the morning yesterday cleaning our bathroom. I was going to clean the other bathroom this morning, but I used all of the paper towels yesterday and they did not have any at the store yesterday. No paper towels! I use these all day everyday! So that is why I can't clean. I can't do laundry because we don't have a washer or dryer. I'm not sure what to do with my time. Any suggestions? Ryan and I have both had a sore throat the past couple of days. I'm not sure why. I'm suspicious that the walls may be filled with mildew. Since it rains everyday, everything is always wet. We're probably allergic to mildew. Sorry if this post is depressing everybody. My mom (a.k.a. "annonymous") wanted me to post what was going on this week. That's basically it!

Ashley, Brown eggs are fine to eat. Steve Neils parents eat them all the time. They will go great with chicken parts. Since you have time on your hands you could always start milking cows or start a garden.
Smart move on not getting the "chicken parts"! The brown eggs are fine to eat. I think it's just that they're not bleached out like the white ones. Tony and I eat brown eggs all the time and we're still alive. :) I'm sorry you're so bored, but geeze, what's a girl to do when she can't even find paper towels!?
Or...maybe if you borrow your neighbors machete you would feel more safe about walking the streets by yourself. :)
Ashley,
Sorry to hear about your grocery struggles. Just think....if you lived in Antioch and tried to go to Kroger you might be the only english speaking person there....and they sell "pollo partes" Keep the moo cow trail stories coming.
Ashley, My name is Dr. Henry. An anonymous reader of your blog has contacted me for my expertise on "The Brown Egg". I am a chickenologist at Harvard. I have studied "The Brown Egg Syndrome" and am considered "The Man" when it comes to the epidemiology of brown eggs. When I first began my studies of "the brown egg", it was common among my colleagues to simply explain this as a product of evolution. In tropical regions, the brown egg was simply explained as eons of evolutionary process whereby the tropical chicken egg became "browner" to protect the young chick from UV rays. However, through my study and research, it has been concluded beyond doubt that evolution had nothing at all to do with the brown egg. My studies have shown that the chicken has 3 main canals from which it can excrete. The scientific name for these canals are: the egg canal, the pee canal and the poop canal. "The Brown Egg Syndrome" is simply a genetic defect of the tropical chicken in which the poop canal and the egg canal have been conjoined. Thus, the egg must pass through the poop canal. I have found that these eggs can be quite tasty and are responsible for much of the spicey taste of Carribbean dishes. However, if you don't desire this extra spicy taste with your eggs, simply wipe the brown off with toilet paper. I would also recommend washing your hands before eating. If you have any further questions regarding chickens, you may contact me through my web site: www.chickenXXXX.com I am currently studying the highly evolved "ChickFilA Chicken". No skin, no feathers, no bones!! Fascinating!!Hope to hear from you soon. Dr. Henry P.S.If you come across any yellow eggs, it's simply the conjoining of the egg and pee canal and the same principles apply.
Ashley,
As usual, you never fail to make me laugh. I was crying while reading your post and the comments everyone else left. Andy was upstairs and heard me laughing. He thought I was on the phone.
I'm sorry you're having a tough time filling your days. Weren't you going to take some books with you? That's better than cleaning any day. I'll try to come up with some good Gavin & Kara stories to amuse you later. Right now, I have to finish drafting a report for SR.
Later,
Jen
